Export tariffs between Iran and Turkey must be reduced, urged Head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines Alinaqi Khamoushi in a recent bid to promote bilateral trade, reported IRNA. The appeal was made during a two-day visit by Turkish President Ahmed Necdet Sezer to neighboring Iran, heading a delegation of 120 business and political persons.
“Thanks to the reviving of the signed agreement on the cancellation of double taxation between Iran and Turkey, we will hopefully be witness to much broader trade and economic cooperation between the two countries' private sectors in near future,” Khamoushi added.
Iran-Turkey trade exchanges totaled $1.2 billion in 2001. Nearly 60 percent of this trade was accounted for by Iranian oil and gas exports to Turkey, which began flowing through a newly laid pipeline, making Tehran one of Turkey's biggest trade partners. The current high-level talks will reportedly also deal with the re-launching of an Iran-Turkey-Europe railroad link for the transport of passenger and cargo. — (menareport.com)
