Turkish trucks will soon resume diesel deliveries across the Iraqi border. Some 100 trucks will cross the Habur border post to northern Iraq daily to transport the diesel fuel, reported AFP.
Habur was closed for the last four months, following Iraq’s freeze on oil deliveries to Turkey through northern region, which is under Kurdish control. Prior to the four-month halt, 1,500 trucks were permitted to cross into the region each day.
Although the fuel transfers do not fall under the UN oil-for-food program, Turkey’s Western allies turn a blind eye to the operations, allowing it to partially compensate for the huge economic losses Turkey has endured as a result of the UN sanctions over the past decade.
Turkey’s state owned TPAO company has plans to drill for oil in the same northern region, which remained outside Baghdad's control since the 1991 Gulf War. The company will open 10 wells at the site, reported Milliyet. — (menareport.com)
