Turkey’s ceramics industry has captured 2.5 percent of the United States’ ceramic market, Turkish ceramic union officials told the Anatolia press agency. The republic earned $196.7 million from kitchen and bath ceramic exports in 2001, of which $19.8 million came from US markets.
With production topping 180 million square meters, Turkey is the fifth largest ceramic tile producer in the world and third largest in Europe. Turkey’s ceramic tile production constitutes 3.5 percent of world’s production and 11 percent of European production. The total production capacity of the 24 manufacturers currently operating in the sector is 250 million square meters per annum. — (menareport.com)
