Turkey's national carrier, Turkish Airlines, said on Monday that it had fired 211 employees over alleged links to Fethullah Gulen's religious movement, which Turkey blames for the the attempted coup of July 15, Reuters reported.
Turkish Airlines said in a statement that the employees' contracts were cut short due to operational necessity, inefficiency, poor performance, as well as providing support to the Gulen movement.
Gulen, a US-based Islamic scholar, was a close ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan until a corruption probe was launched by Gulen's followers into the dealings of Erdogan's inner circle.
Since the failed coup, over 13,000 people have been detained, and thousands more teachers and hospital workers have been fired as many institutions have been shut down.
