Turkish Airlines announces massive airbus order aiming to become world's largest carrier.
The new order includes 150 Airbus A321neo and 60 Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

ALBAWABA - Turkish Airlines declared its intent to purchase over 200 Airbus aircraft, with an option for an additional 100 planes, as part of a decade-long plan to become the world's largest airline. This strategic plan is outlined for the period 2023-2033, according to a statement from the Turkish group.

CEO Bilal Ekşi clarified that the total number of new aircraft could reach 355, making this deal one of the largest in the history of the aviation industry. However, there were discrepancies in the numbers reported by Turkish Airlines and Airbus. The Turkish company stated that it submitted orders for 230 planes, with rights to purchase an additional 125 aircraft.

On the other hand, Airbus reported that the number of new planes is 220, and the remaining ten planes were previously ordered by the Turkish company in September.

The new order includes 150 Airbus A321neo and 60 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The list price for the requested aircraft is $40 billion, but final prices are typically lower due to manufacturers offering discounts for large orders.

Currently, Turkish Airlines' fleet is evenly distributed between Airbus and American manufacturer Boeing. However, this new order significantly strengthens the position of the European manufacturer.

Airbus CEO Christian Scherer stated, "The purchase of the latest generation of aircraft is an indicator of Turkish Airlines' bold vision."

The Turkish company operates flights to over 120 global destinations from the new Istanbul International Airport. The new deal also includes separate orders from the British company Rolls-Royce to provide engines and spare parts for the Airbus A350 aircraft.
