ALBAWABA - With Turkey recently banning streaming sites Kick and Twitch, it seems the tables have turned for one platform as the country decided to unban one of them.
According to an X post (formerly known as Twitter) by media outlet Dexerto, Turkey has unbanned its internet users from entering Kick as Amazon's Twitch remains banned. The news of banning the two streaming sites came two days ago on Feb. 25, 2024.
The unbanning was made under one condition, which is the removal of gambling content as it has proven addictive and has a bad influence on the youth, according to Sports Keeda. Moreover, gambling in Turkey is highly regulated by the government under the National Lottery Administration.
A Turkish journalist called Ibrahim Haskologu claimed in Turkish:
"Turkish officials I spoke to stated that Kick's entry into Turkey was to attract Turkish youth to roulette".
Turkey unbans Kick but what about Twitch?
The official Kick account replied to Dexerto's post with "EZ" as the platform felt proud of the unbanning while users replied to it with "Common Kick W" and "Take the L Twitch".
By the time of writing this article, no official news has released anything about Amazon-owned Twitch making a comeback to the country.
Social media thought the banning came because of Kick and Twitch's rise in seductive content where women on both platforms wear revealing clothing for views and "Meta" purposes which was proven wrong because it was all allegedly about the gambling content that the country removed as mentioned above.
