Turkey’s energy and natural resources ministry announced that it intend issuing tenders for 29 power stations under build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, with guarantees offered by Turkish Treasury.

According to the ministry, 17 of the power station will be wind powered, seven involve hydroelectric power, four involve gas-fired turbines, and one will involve geothermal power.

The total installed power will be 1,400 megawatts, or 7.41 billion kilowatt/hours of electricity a year. The combined value of the 29 facilities is estimated to be $2.5 billion.

The 29 projects were a feature of Turkey's strengthened loan deal with the International Monetary Fund. Article 36 of Turkey's letter of intent, which was approved by the IMF board on December 22, stated 29 BOT power projects with a total capacity of about 1,005 megawatts could qualify for treasury guarantees on condition that they are commissioned by 2002.
