Trade fair highlights Iranian-Malaysian business ties

Malaysia's Putra World Trade Center is highlight Iranian industry, at the fourth solo exhibition of Iranian products, which will run from February 13 to 20. The show is being organized by the Iran International Exhibition Center under supervision of the Iranian ministry of commerce.  

 

To underscore the importance that both Iran and Malaysia are giving to trade relations between the two countries, the fair will be jointly opened by the by the Iranian cooperative minister, Morteza Hajji, and the Malaysian foreign minister, Syed Hamid Albar. 

 

The fair will feature the more than 30 companies, who will be exhibiting industrial machinery, steel and iron products, hand and machine-made carpets, food and beverages, fruits, chandeliers, crockery and melamin products, home appliances, automative spare parts, handicrafts, decorative stones and mineral products. 

 

The last Iranian exhibition held in Malaysia was in 1995. 

 

Bilateral trade between Iran and Malaysia in 2000 stood at $201 million, with Malaysian exports to Iran equaling $103 million and exports from Iran standing at $98 million. In contrast, in 1991 bilateral trade stood at $66 million, with Malaysian exports of $48 million and Iran exports of $18 million. 

 

Iranian exports to Malaysia include crude oil, petroleum derivatives, industrial alcohol, chemical materials, aluminum and alloys, stone and building-construction materials and dried fruits. Malaysian exports include rubber, margarine and fats, palm oil, plastics and textile yarn. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
