ALBAWABA - Toyota announced that it will suspend operations across all its assembly factories in Japan starting from Tuesday afternoon, August 29, due to a malfunction in the production system. This suspension will likely lead to a halt in local production for the world's largest car company.

A spokesperson for the world's top-selling car manufacturer stated that they were unable to procure components due to a glitch in the production system. He added that it's "likely not the result of a cyberattack" and the company is investigating the cause.

Toyota suspended operations in 12 of its factories as of this morning, with two still in operation. The spokesperson mentioned that work will cease in all 14 factories in the second shift today, though the extent of the production loss has yet to be determined.

Reuters' calculations indicate that these fourteen factories collectively account for approximately one-third of the company's global production.

This pause comes amid a resurgence in Toyota's production in Japan, following a series of reduced production plans attributed by the company to semiconductor shortages.

Toyota's production in Japan increased by 29% in the first half of the year, marking the first such increase in two years.
