More than half a million passengers have connected to the internet on an Emirates aircraft since inflight Wi-Fi was launched three years ago, according to the Dubai airline, which adds that it spends $20 million annually on enabling onboard Wi-Fi services.
The carrier says onboard Wi-Fi is available on all 53 A380s and on 28 Boeing 777s, which serve six continents. The airline also has an aggressive retrofit programme which will eventually see its entire fleet Wi-Fi enabled.
“We’ve always viewed Wi-Fi as a service and a value-added part of Emirates’ overall product, rather than a revenue stream,” said Sir Tim Clark, Emirates’ president said in an airline statement.
