Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division has inaugurated its first ever logistics and distribution hub in the Middle East, located at Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai. The opening coincides with Toshiba Gulf’s 10th year anniversary and the visit of Atsutoshi Nishida, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation.
The new logistics hub will serve 21 different countries in the MEA and Levant region, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt and Lebanon. The hub will also allow Toshiba to regionalise notebooks with Arabised software and keyboards.
“We are honoured to host Toshiba’s President and CEO today, Mr. Nishida, as we mark the beginning of a new and important chapter in the development of Toshiba Computer Systems Division in the Middle East,” said Mr. Yasuyoshi Matsunaga, managing director, Toshiba Gulf. “In just a few years, Toshiba Computer Systems Division has gone from a small operation to a regional network that covers the whole of the Middle East and Africa.”
“Toshiba’s new logistics hub is yet another development that will boost Toshiba’s growing standing in the notebook PC sector, improve excellence in the region, allow further strengthening of our channel relationships and serve our customers in an even more efficient manner,” commented Santosh Varghese, regional general manager, Toshiba Computer Systems Middle East and Africa.
The company will use the new logistics hub located in Jebel Ali Free Zone, to ship all the orders for the entire MEA region. All operating procedures have been tested and product shipments have commenced from the new hub with logistical operations outsourced to the Panalpina Group and RHS Logistics.
“Dubai’s highly developed infrastructure and continued investment in Jebel Ali maintains it as one of the major distribution points in the whole GCC region, making it an obvious choice as a central location for distribution to the Middle East.”
“Almost 80 percent of our business is done in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and the new hub will significantly improve our route to market in terms of speed and flexibility,” added Varghese.
