ALBAWABA – TikTok, the social media platform that allows users to create, share, and discover short-form videos, fired an intern over sabotaging an artificial intelligence (AI) project.

ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, announced the firing of an intern over sabotaging an AI project. According to the company, the commercial online operations and language AI models remained unaffected.

As stated by the company, the intern ‘maliciously interfered’ with one of the artificial intelligence models. ByteDance denied all reports circulating on social media regarding any operational impacts or errors caused by the intern.

Doubao

It is worth mentioning that Doubao, ByteDance's ChatGPT-like offering and most popular AI chatbot in China was sabotaged by the intern during testing.

"The individual was an intern with the [advertising] technology team and has no experience with the AI Lab. Their social media profile and some media reports contain inaccuracies,” as stated by ByteDance.

The company confirmed that its commercial online operations and AI models were unaffected, and the incident did not result in the reported $10 million worth of damages.

Notably, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok and its Chinese counterpart Douyin, is renowned for its algorithm development. The company is now actively investing in artificial intelligence, particularly with its Doubao chatbot and other applications, including the text-to-video tool Jimeng.
