Tejari, the region’s leading online marketplace, has become the world’s first e-marketplace to qualify for the ISO 9001:2000 quality certificate, it was announced today. Tejari has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification after proving its commitment to quality and best practice in its operations.

The company was audited by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Ltd (LRQA), to assess Tejari’s adherence to a systematic world-standard approach to managing its business.

“During the recent unveiling of the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Vice President, and Ruler of Dubai, stated that ‘the best practices in the areas of management, quality, excellence and innovation are the criteria that determine the ability of companies to survive, prosper and compete in this global village and single international market’. Tejari very much shares this view. In today’s business arena Quality is a competitive differentiator and adopting global standards simply a must. With Tejari’s ISO 9001:2000 certification, we are proud to play a role in building out Dubai as the center of excellence in the region.” said Omar Hijazi CEO of Tejari.

ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard that gives requirements for an organization’s quality management system. ISO 9001:2000 is seen as an important benchmark for companies that do business internationally, as well as providing productivity and service level benefits to companies that comply with its standards.

“By achieving ISO9001:2000 approval, Tejari gains an internationally recognized certification that indicates to all interested parties that Tejari is committed to the highest standards in achieving its promises to its clients. Increasingly this qualification is seen as a benchmark for excellence in global businesses. In addition, the process of attaining ISO 9001: 2000 sets the company on a course of continuous improvement, creating further challenges and gains for the company. Companies that reach this approval stay forward-looking and make improvements in products, processes and service quality, which can translate into increased customer satisfaction, greater productivity and even competitive advantage,” said Basem Obaid, General Manager, ME & Africa, LRQA Ltd.

Tejari now operates in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia and is involved in initiatives to provide online procurement services to many more countries worldwide. As the ISO 9001:2000 certification is increasingly regarded as a prerequisite for business by many multi-national organizations, Tejari was keen to qualify as quickly as possible. The company is already a recipient of several major quality-related awards, including UAE Superbrands, Dubai Quality Appreciation Program Award, and the World Summit on Information Society Award for best e-content.

“ISO 9001:2000 certification is a key milestone for Tejari, and our focus on delivering only the highest quality services is reinforced by achieving this objective. We now have in place the management systems to make sure that our capacity can continue to grow smoothly and most importantly a framework to conduct continuous improvement initiatives to deliver world-class services,” Hijazi added.
