Syria will set up a school for business administration, a specialty given little attention so far in the state-run universities, Damascus' official newspapers reported Wednesday, January 31.
President Bashar al-Assad has sent the parliament a bill to set up a "Higher Institute for Business Administration", they said. Syrian students at the faculty of commerce currently have to wait until their fourth and last year before graduation to take courses in business administration.
The move comes as Syria steps up measures to open up its economy for private investments, both local and foreign, since Bashar took power after the death of his father, Hafez al-Assad, last year. — (AFP)
