Olive farming sources in Aleppo, northern Syria, expected on Thursday the product would surpass 200,000 tons this season, while olive oil production might hit 40,000 tons.
The sources told SANA the area, cultivated with olive trees, has reached more than 163,000 hectare, including 20 million trees.
Olive trees harvest season kicked off Wednesday in Aleppo, the leading Syrian governorate in olive and oil production.
Olive farming in Syria has witnessed a remarkable development in the past decade when areas cultivated with this crops have totaled more than 600,000 hectare, including more than 85 million trees with some 55 million of them fruitful.
