The Syrian Ministry of Transport has laid out a number of projects for private investment.
In the sphere of land transport, the ministry offered a number of projects for execution and investment such as the Turkish-Jordanian Highway project. This highway will charge the passing vehicles with fees. It is expected that the rate of the passing vehicles will amount to 8,000 vehicles on a daily basis.
According to SANA, the Ministry offered another project for execution and investment, namely the Tartous highway, which will connect the port city with the Iraqi border town of al Tanaf. This project aims at shortening the distance between the city of Homs and al Tanaf. The passing vehicles through this 250 km long highway are expected to constitute 35 percent of the overall international transit transport passing through Syria. This highway is also expected to facilitate transport from Lebanon, Jordan and from the Syrian southern area.
The ministry also offered other land road projects outside Damascus city including a surface metro and railways.
In air transport, the ministry offered building airports for joint investment , the establishment of airbus companies, and building hotels for investment at the airports .
