Several bilateral cooperation agreements were concluded this week between the governments of Syria and Bahrain, following the meeting of the countries’ joint committee. The accords signed relate to collaboration in the fields of finance and banking, culture, health, science, construction, agriculture and environment. The committee also agreed to set up a new trade center in Manama that would promote Syrian companies and merchandise.

The value of exchanges between Syria and Bahrain grew from 4.8 million Bahraini Dinars ($12.7 million) in 1999 to five million Bahraini Dinars ($13 million) in 2000, according to the Bahraini Ambassador to Syria Waheed Mubarak. Bahraini exports to Syria in 2000 constituted 30 percent of Bahrain’s total exports. Bahraini imports from Syria in 2000 amounted to 32 percent of the country’s total imports in the same year. — (menareport.com)
