Syria and Kuwait signed Thursday, August 16, three cooperation agreements on administration, agriculture and investment at the end of a joint ministerial meeting, the SANA news agency reported. The agreements are aimed to "encourage and guarantee" investment, SANA said.

Syria's deputy minister for economic affairs, Khalid Raad, and the Kuwaiti minister of finance and planning, Yussuf Hamad Al-Ibrahim, whose have met along with their delegations since Tuesday, stressed "the importance of the results obtained in contributing to bolstering relations," SANA reported. The next committee meeting is scheduled for the beginning of next year.

Kuwait's economic development fund has lent Syria money in the past for projects, notably in the textile sector. Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is expected in Kuwait Saturday on his first visit to the wealthy emirate since coming to power in July 2000, an official Kuwaiti source said. ― (AFP, Damascus)
