The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) has ordered a halt to the sale of the smart scooter "Hoverboard" as a precautionary measure.

The move, which is being implemented in collaboration with the council's strategic partners, is aimed at ensuring that these devices conform with the safety standards.

The QCC examined some of these devices at purpose-built laboratories.

In cooperation with the authorities concerned such as the Department of Economic Development, the council issued a circular preventing the sale of any electronic devices without obtaining its approval. It allows the sale of electronic devices after ensuring that they conform to safety standards and requirements.

Currently, the council is conducting specialised studies and research in order to set the safety standards for electronic devices due to the lack of relevant legislation and controls.

The council urged all users of electronic devices to exercise caution when using them, use reflective stickers on helmets, and reduce the speed of such devices when approaching interchanges in order to avoid collisions with vehicles.
