Iran will build a steel plant in Kuwait that marks the Islamic republic's first-ever industrial factory abroad, the official IRNA news agency reported Saturday.

It cited Mines and Metals Minister Eshaq Jahangiri saying the plant would be operational in the emirate by March 2002 but gave no further details about the project.

Iran has been expanding international cooperation in its industrial and other sectors in a bid to revive the economy, which has been saddled with high unemployment and inflation. – (AFP)
