The central region in Saudi Arabia has proven to be a magnet for newly built industrial plants, drawing investments worth SR 315 million in 1999 to recently opened factories.
According to a report appearing in Al-Jazirah, official Saudi statistics show that 22 factories were opened in the central region, equaling 40 percent of the 51 newly built plants in the kingdom.
Out of the 775 permits for new projects issued throughout Saudi Arabia in 1999, the number of permits received by industries located in the central region amounted to 378. These projects are worth $2.47 billion, and involve the employment of 13,987 workers. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
