The Council of Ministers, held on June 21, approved the South Lebanon development plan elaborated by the CDR.
This plan, which is extensively inspired by the UNDP project, gives priority to the development of infrastructure and public services «to encourage the return of inhabitants of liberated regions», but includes also an economic and social development program and a complete mine clearance program for the region.
The implementation of this plan should require $1,200 million of which 897 intended to infrastructures, equipments and service development. In the short term, $45 million will be spent on the infrastructures, 318 million in 6 months and 530 million in the long run.
Besides, $100 million are dedicated to economic and social development projects, $190 million to aid programs, and $8.5 million to the mine clearance program.
The financing of this program will be mainly based on loans and donations from Arab countries and the European Union.
