Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, a joint venture between Sweden's Ericsson and Sony Corporation of Japan, has opened its Middle East and Africa headquarters at Dubai Internet City (DIC). The new office will serve as the company's regional hub for the entire Middle East and Africa region, covering more than 60 countries.
Sony Ericsson is seeking to transform mobile communications through the offering of new multimedia and entertainment devices. “Our growth in the Middle East and Africa has been exciting. Middle East consumers are very tech savvy and demanding. The regional market is likely to continue seeing strong growth over the coming years,” said Mats Paulson, Sony Ericsson general manager for the Middle East and Africa.
Sony Ericsson's management is based in London, and has approximately 4,000 employees across the globe working on research, development, design, sales, marketing, distribution and support.

DIC is the first complete Information Technology (IT) and telecommunications center in the world to have been built inside a free trade zone, with over 300 companies now operating from its premises. DIC has issued licenses to a host of global IT companies, including Microsoft, Oracle, Canon and Hewlett-Packard. DIC allows 100 percent foreign ownership of companies. Sales, company earnings and private income are exempt from any form of taxation. Companies can also take land on a renewable lease of up to 50 years and build their own offices. — (menareport.com)
