ALBAWABA - Japanese tech giant Sony surprised everybody at CES 2024 when they showcased their upcoming electric car in collaboration with one of the best car manufacturers in the world, Honda under the name of Afeela.

One of Sony's executives took to the stage to announce the ongoing project as he showcased the car to the CES audience by driving it using a PS5 controller as the steering wheel turned on its own!

Sony and Honda introduce gaming into cars

The Afeela Vision-S was first revealed by Sony and Honda a year ago at CES 2023 and is still considered a prototype (work in progress) this year, the car's interior focuses on screens and entertainment as they are hard to miss with the amount of them inside.

Sony and Honda refer to the screens as a "Panoramic Screen" on the official website with a rear seat entertainment system for the passengers in the back and to amplify the experience further, they are using Sony's new and immersive "360 Reality Audio" which is used in its headphones.

The PS5 controller isn't only used to control the car as it was made with gamers in mind as well, similar to the new PlayStation Portal, Afeela's screens can be used to stream games from a user's PS5 using Remote Play which is the perfect distraction when waiting to charge a car at a gas station.

Afeela is full of innovation and possibilities especially when both companies announced they are working with Microsoft to introduce a “conversational personal agent” using AI and Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital to “develop vehicles that fuse the virtual and the real.”

According to The Verge, the company expects to open pre-orders in 2025 and begin delivering the new electric car in 2026.
