ALBAWABA – Sony, the Japanese multinational company, has announced a 25% price hike for the PlayStation 5 (PS5), its home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The increase will take effect in Europe and is attributed to recent United States (US) tariffs announced by President Donald Trump, as well as the possibility of further price hikes in the US.
Sony increases PS5 prices
The renowned Japanese company has announced an increase in the price of its PlayStation 5 (PS5) in Europe, with the United Kingdom (UK), Australia, and New Zealand also affected. The move comes amid recent tariffs imposed by United States (US) President Donald Trump.
The announcement was made through Sony’s official online blog. According to the company, the PS5 will now cost approximately $536–$545 (€500) in Europe and around $575.68 (£430) in the UK, effective immediately.

In its blog, Sony suggested that the reasons behind the recent price hike include the tariffs imposed by United States (US) President Donald Trump, global economic conditions, inflation, and the potential for future price increases in the US.
Notably, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) was released four years ago. Sony is currently developing a new version, the PS5 Pro. According to sources, the price of the new edition will remain unaffected for the time being.
