The Wireless and Broadband Division of US-based Smith Micro Software, a developer and marketer of a wide range of software and service solutions for the wireless market, announced a deal to build data connectivity accessory kits, which includes a suite of Smith Micro QuickLink Mobile software applications and a data cable to the Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company for their GSM/GPS satellite phones.
These accessory kits will be available for sale by Thuraya retail partners. The kit includes Smith Micro’s flagship data connectivity software product known as QuickLink Mobile along with QuickLink Mobile’s companion products, QuickLink Mobile for Pocket PC, QuickLink Mobile Phonebook and QuickLink Mobile Fax. The kit will also include a means for the consumer to download commercially available GPS software to be used with Thuraya’s satellite phones.
Thuraya provides mobile voice and data services utilizing a dual-mode architecture that combines satellite connectivity, including GPS location, and mobile access via existing GSM networks. Thuraya’s satellite footprint covers Europe, the Middle East, South and Central Asia, North and Central Africa. Maritime coverage is provided in the eastern Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the English Channel and other bodies of water adjacent to areas of land listed above. — (menareport.com)
