Six Continents Hotels signed an agreement to manage three hotel properties in Alexandria, Egypt, two of which now join the Inter-Continental chain while the third becomes a Holiday Inn Resort. The deal was signed with the Hannovill Egypt Tours company, the owners of the three hotels.
Six Continents now has ten hotels in its Egyptian portfolio, with four new properties currently under development and a number of others in the pipeline, according to a company press release. Six Continents Hotels has its headquarters for the Middle East and Africa in the Egyptian capital.
The Metropole Inter-Continental Hotel and the Windsor Palace Inter-Continental Hotel are both officially classified as “Heritage” properties. Characterized by period style interiors, these two boutique hotels are within five minutes walking distance of each other at the heart of Old Alexandria, overlooking the Mediterranean. The Holiday Inn Resort Alexandria is a 20-minutes drive east along the Corniche, and is the city’s only international brand hotel property with its own beach.
Ten minutes from the airport and overlooking Alexandria’s eastern harbor, the Metropole Inter-Continental Hotel was built in 1902 by Greek and Italian architects. It offers 66 classic period-style rooms and suites, an all-day restaurant serving French and Middle Eastern cuisine, a multi-purpose function hall with two breakout rooms, and a business center.
The Windsor Palace Inter-Continental Hotel, built in 1906, has 76 rooms and suites. One of two restaurants, the King Edward, offers gourmet dining, and extends to a street-front café overlooking the harbor. There is also a lobby lounge, as well as two multi-function ballrooms, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and William Shakespeare Hall.
Situated on Alexandria’s longest beach, within the private community of Maamoura, the Holiday Inn Resort Alexandria is surrounded by tropical pools and palm trees. Its parks contain children’s playgrounds, and a health club with a heated indoor pool, outdoor pool, steam room, Jacuzzi and a fitness center. The hotel has two restaurants and a café, and also offers a multi-purpose function room capable of holding receptions for up to 750 people.
Six Continents Hotels will open three new properties in Egypt later this year—the 425-room Sharm Al-Sheikh Inter-Continental Resort and the 452-room Inter-Continental Resort Soma Bay in the autumn, and the 792-room Hotel Inter-Continental Heliopolis in Cairo early in 2003.
A second new Cairo hotel, the Holiday Inn Heliopolis, opens in the summer of 2003. Like the new Inter-Continental hotel in the capital, it is an integral part of Citystars Heliopolis Cairo, the development also comprises major shopping, entertainment, residential and office facilities.
Currently under management by Six Continents Hotels in Egypt are the Semiramis Inter-Continental Hotel, the Pyramids Park Inter-Continental Resort, the Hurghada Inter-Continental Resort & Casino, the Crowne Plaza Resort Sharm Al-Sheikh, the Holiday Inn Resort Sharm Al-Sheikh, the Holiday Inn Resort Amphoras Sharm Al-Sheikh and the Holiday Inn Resort Safaga Palace.
The United Kingdom-based Six Continents Hotels owns, manages, leases or franchises more than 3,260 hotels and 514,000 guest rooms in nearly 100 countries and territories. — (menareport.com)
