The Egyptian Aviation Holding Company (EAHC) has reported, that communication developer SITA has successful completed the first phase of its five year $35 million systems integration and information technology (IT) services contract, stated a press release.

The contract was awarded to SITA in 2001 and work is progressing according to the original plan. SITA completed the implementation of the central control center in Cairo in December 2001. This will operate the IT systems to manage operations at Abou-Simbul, Alexandria, Aswan, Hurghada, Luxor and Sharm-El-Sheikh airports, that jointly handle over 12 million passengers a year.

Additionally, work on the IT infrastructure and systems has started at Hurghada, Aswan, Sharm El-Sheikh. By mid-June Hurghada will be the first airport to be connected to the Cairo headquarters, with the others following in July and August respectively. In parallel SITA will soon begin work at the other airports and start training relevant airport employees.

Across the EAHC airports, SITA will develop and install all of the required IT systems, including hardware, software and any associated items. EAHC will be able to manage all its operations using SITA's pre-integrated suite of solutions, Airport in a Box, which includes AirportCentral - the airport operations and management database; AirportVision - the airport information display system and Airport ResourceManager - the system to automatically schedule and allocate airport facilities and equipment.

SITA's BagManager and BagMessage services will support the reconciliation and tracking of baggage and Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) will be used to provide shared check-in facilities for all airlines and ground handling agents. All of these airport systems, based at the Cairo offices, will operate on a campus communications network infrastructure provided and managed by SITA. — (menareport.com)
