Singapore Airlines (SA), the world's most "awarded airlines", recently opened a new sales office in Doha. Dr. Ali Hamid al-Mulla, Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, and Sheikh Faisal bin Jassim al-Thani, General Manager of
the Overseas Travel Bureau, the new GSA for the airline in Qatar, jointly cut the ceremonial ribbon.
The new office, at the Abdullah bin Thani Road, near Jaidah Tower, was attended by many of Doha's top travel and tourism officials. A workshop for travel agents at the Doha Sheraton followed the inauguration, Gulf Times reported.
The dedicated office is expected to allow the carrier to serve passengers more efficiently and to provide more effective support to travel agents. With a fleet of 91 aircraft (reputed as the most modern fleet in the world), the national flag carrier of Singapore boasts a vast flight network, connecting 92 destinations in 42 nations, SA corporate data revealed. The network expands to most parts of the world, including South-East Asia, West Asia, North Asia, Africa, South-West Pacific, Europe and North America.
Responding to a question at the inaugural press conference, about the possibility of flying into Doha, Chuang K B, Singapore Airline General Manager for the Gulf Region remarked, "Any new route is added after very careful study. Doha has great potential for business and leisure travel but "we need to study further."
According to SA officials, the carrier is reviewing its in-flight entertainment and will also examine the possibility of introducing Arabic music and menu. Chang added that currently at the Singapore airport, Arabic speaking "meet and assist" staff are on-hand for passenger assistance, though this needs to be further developed.
