Germany's Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Network Group (Siemens Mobile) has been awarded a five million dollar contract by the Telecommunication Kish Company (TKC) under which it will provide the Iranian island of Kish with a complete GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) 900 network.
The island’s telecommunications network is run by Libancell on a management contract with TKC. The new contract covers the swap of the existing Ericsson infrastructure and the migration of subscribers to the Siemens’ supplied network. Siemens will supply a complete GSM network, with services including installation, commissioning and technical support.
The contract was signed in December 2001, where installation started recently. Siemens’ partnership with Libancell started in 1994 and is a key supplier in Iran. The Siemens ICM offers mobile solutions including mobile devices, infrastructure and applications. Devices include mobile phones, wireless modules, mobile organizers and cordless phones as well as products for wireless home networks.
The infrastructure portfolio includes GSM, GPRS and 3G mobile network technologies from base stations and switching systems to intelligent networks. Mobile Applications cover end-to-end solutions for Messaging, Location Based Services or Mobile Payment. For the fiscal year 2001, which ended September 30, IC Mobile recorded sales of €11.3 billion and employed 30,730 people worldwide. — (menareport.com)
