Saudi stock market declines during July

At the end of July 2008, the Saudi stock market's TADAWUL All Share Index (TASI) closed at a level of 8,740.74 points, lost 611.58 points (6.54%) over the close of the previous month. On an YTD basis TASI lost 2,297.92 points (20.82%). Highest close level for the index last month was 9,517.32 on 07/07/2008.


Total equity market capitalization at the end of July 2008 reached SR 1.70 trillion (US$ 452.11 billion), decreasing by 4.46% over the previous month. The total value of shares traded for the month of July 2008 reached SR 163.30 billion (US$ 43.55 billion), decreasing by 26.88% over the previous month.


The total number of shares traded reached 4.00 billion shares for the month of July 2008 compared to 6.42 billion shares traded during the previous month, decreasing by 37.63%. The total number of transactions executed during July 2008 reached 5.55 million compared to 6.80 million trades for the month of June 2008, decreasing by 18.30%.
