Hewlett-Packard (HP) Middle East announced that Saudi Arabia’s National Commercial Bank (NCB) has selected its UNIX server solutions to support NCB’s network of 277 branches, managed from its headquarters in Jeddah. The contract includes migration to the HP Superdome and Keystone servers’ platform as well as support from HP Services.
NCB was the first Saudi bank to provide its customers with WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) services and comprehensive Internet banking offering. NCB became a joint stock company in July 1997. In 1999, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), an arm of the Saudi government, acquired a 50 percent shareholding in the bank. Subsequently, PIF sold 10 percent of the shares to the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).
International provider of computing and imaging solutions and services, HP had total revenue of $45.2 billion in its 2001 fiscal year. HP has been present in the Middle East since 1968, and opened its Dubai based regional office in 1997. HP has 125 employees based in its Dubai, Ramallah, Cairo and Riyadh offices, servicing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Levant and Egypt. — (menareport.com)
