An international expressway will soon connect the kingdom of Saudi Arabia with its southern neighbor Yemen, and Jordan to the north, reported the official Yemeni news agency, Saba

Budgetary provisions have been made for the construction of the road in this year’s financial plan, the kingdom’s communications minister, Nassir Al-Sallum was quoted as saying. The road is planned to pass through Tiwal, Jizan, Darb, Qunfuda, Jiddah, Yambu and north Aqaba. It will also would run by Yemen’s Tihama mountains and thus reduce traffic on the Hada Road.

Another 20-kilometer road will soon be paved linking Uqbat Al-Muhammadiya in Shafa and its suburban areas with Tihama and the Red Sea coast. Work on a two-way Jizan-Darb road and a Jizan ring road is underway as well.

The Saudi daily Arab News disclosed that the government has spent more than SR120 billion so far on revamping the country’s roads network. The road is part of a regional effort to provide the infrastructure required for the establishment of a free Arab World market. — (Mena Report)
