Saudi funds to rebuild houses in Gaza

Peter Hansen, the general commissioner of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), signed a memorandum of understanding with Yusuf Ibrahim al-Basam, the vice chairman of the Saudi Development Fund, regarding Saudi contribution by approximately $20 million to the reconstruction of the destroyed regions in Rafah and in Gaza Strip.

 

Al-Basam said that the money will serve in the Saudi dwelling project in Gaza Strip for the reconstruction of approximately 700 dwelling units, including infra structure, public services in the medical, social and educational areas. He added that Saudi Arabia had awarded $44 million for financing several of UNRWA projects, including the nursing collage in Gaza, construction and widening of 37 schools, 9 medical centers and one hospital, and renovating and widening of more than 800 houses in the refugee camps in the Palestinian Territories.
