Authorities have warned of tough action against people dealing in illegal SIM cards.

The new warning follows reports that the suicide bomber in Asir used an undocumented SIM card.

Anyone involved in the trading of mobile phone SIMs will be considered a "terror" facilitator, said a stern directive from the Asir Governorate.

“Each and every citizen should consider the security of the Kingdom as of utmost importance, and should not seek to, intentionally or unintentionally, contribute to its insecurity,” it stated.

The 21-year-old bomber, Yousef al-Sulaiman, who blew himself up at the Special Emergency Forces Center Mosque on Thursday, had used a SIM card that was registered in another person’s name to plan and carry out the heinous act which claimed 15 lives.

Unregistered SIM cards that are used for criminal activities are confiscated and the mobile operator is penalized by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC).
