Immediately following the virus attack, that part of the system was shut down and not allowed to communicate with any more of the oil production facility’s system. This past Sunday, Saudi Aramco announced that all workstation had removed the virus and everything was back to normal. They also wanted to stress that no oil exploration or production parts of the computer system were ever affected.
In a press statement from Saudi Aramco’s CEO, “Khalid al-Falih stated, “We would like to emphasize and assure our stakeholders, customers and partners that our core businesses of oil and gas exploration, production and distribution from the wellhead to the distribution network were unaffected and are functioning as reliably as ever.”
Saudi Aramco did not discuss or give any clues as to how the virus got into the system. However a hacker group calling themselves the “Arab Youth Group” claimed responsibility soon after the attack.
