ALBAWABA - Saudi Arabia has agreed to process around 3 million tonnes of municipal solid waste annually into refuse-derived fuels across six governorates.
This initiative, involving German and Norwegian firms, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1.79 million tonnes per year.
It supports Saudi Arabia's environmental sustainability goals and push towards a circular economy.
The project utilizes blockchain technology for transparent waste tracking and a plastic credits system to incentivize responsible disposal.
It aligns with Saudi's broader plans to recycle up to 95% of the country's waste, a move projected to contribute $32 billion to GDP and create over 100,000 jobs.
