Ibrahim bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Almufleh, Director General of the Zakat (benefit from giving charity) and Income Department at the Ministry of Finance, told Asharq al Awsat newspaper that the value of the total collected Zakat in the Kingdom rose to $960 million (SR 3.6 billion) last year. This figure reflects a 20% growth compared with the previous year.
The Zakat (a form of tithe) is paid annually by Saudi individuals and companies within the provisions of Islamic law. The Zakat is an annual flat rate of 2.5 percent of the assessable amount.
