ALBAWABA - The sale of an estimated $1.96 billion worth of weapons focused on air defenses to Saudi Arabia has been approved, according to the U.S. State Department.

The weapons sought by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are around 20,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems and its warheads which are described as "an inexpensive way to destroy targets while limiting collateral damage in close combat.” According to the U.S. Navy website.

"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a Major non-NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Gulf Region," the U.S. State Department stated.

It seems as the war reignites in the Gulf, Saudi Arabia is determined to not let even one drone or missile hit its soil, alongside the threat from Iran, as the attacks between it and the U.S. pick up steam, there are also Yemen’s Houthis who have fired missiles at an airport in the southern Saudi city of Abha on Monday.

All this has pushed the Kingdom to boost its war readiness with the $2 billion sale, allowing it to better defend against threats:

"The proposed sale will improve Saudi Arabia's capability to deter current and future threats by strengthening its homeland defense, and improving interoperability with US forces, and other regional and NATO forces," the press release said.
