Arabic information technology (IT) solutions developer Sakhr, will continue its collaboration with international IT giant, Intel, to optimize several of its solutions to run on Intel architecture, providing end-users enhanced benefits through exchange of know-how between the two companies.
The announcement was made in Dubai after a recent meeting between the visiting CEO of Intel Corporation, Craig Barett and Chairman of Al-Alamiah Group, Mohammed Al-Sharekh, the parent company of Sakhr Software. According to the agreement, Sakhr and Intel will collaborate in several areas and exchange know-how to add value to Arabic language solutions that have been developed through the Research and Development division of Sakhr. Barett also had the opportunity to watch a live demonstration of Sakhr's speech and translation technologies running on Intel's hardware platforms.
The collaboration has enabled Sakhr to run all its solutions on Intel architecture. Solutions like Idrisi Search Engine, ArabDox Document Management System, TTS Text to Speech Engine, ASR Automatic Speech Recognition, Ibsar Reading Machine for the blind, OCR Optical Character Recognition and SET Sakhr Enterprise Translation are now optimized to run on the Intel IA-32 and IA-64 architectures. Further, Idrisi and SET have been optimized to run on the Itanium-2 64-bit processors. ArabDox, ASR and TTS have been optimized to run on Intel Xeon 32-bit processors and Ibsar and OCR were optimized to run on Intel Northwood Refresh, the newest Pentium 4 processor.
Intel will be sharing some of its development techniques with Sakhr in the fields of optimization, bench-marking, stress testing, stability and scalability of solutions. The agreement also entails close collaboration between Sakhr and Intel on joint marketing and co-branding of some of the offerings.
Sakhr Software Company was founded in Kuwait in 1982, and was relocated in Cairo in 1990. The company develops software specifically tailored to the needs of the Arabic market and Arabic language users.
