Chairman, Royal Commission of Jubail & Yanbu and SABIC Chairman, Prince Saud Ibn Abdullah Ibn Thunayan Al-Saud on 23 January, 2006 opened the SABIC Turkey office. Those present included Mohamed Al-Mady, SABIC Vice Chairman & CEO; Dr. Mohammad Al- Hussaini, Saudi Arabian ambassador to Turkey; Mohammad Hashim, Saudi Arabian General Consul to Turkey and a number of Turkish businessmen.
In celebration of this event, SABIC has organized a reception and dinner party for over 200 important customers.
Prince Saud said, “I praise the strong relations enjoyed between Saudi Arabia and Turkey. In particular, economic progress in the downstream industries sector where SABIC is proud to cooperate. SABIC endeavors to further develop this collaboration as much as possible.
“SABIC has been expanding its presence in Turkey since the 1980s. Within the Turkish marketplace SABIC sales represent 12% Polyethylene and Polypropylene, 5% Polystyrene and 15% of chemical products. SABIC looks forward to increasing these figures in line with Turkey’s economic growth.
“The Turkish marketplace is one of SABIC’s important strategic markets. For this reason, SABIC has been keen to strengthen its presence in Turkey since 2004 in order to meet its customers’ demands, provide them with suitable support and immediate delivery of products and services. To support this role, SABIC opened warehouses first in Istanbul and subsequently in Mersin. SABIC plans to develop still further its operations in Turkey to increase its sales to 600,000 metric tons of polymers and 600,000 metric tons of chemicals, within the next 5 years.
