Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) recently concluded a five-year urea supply contract with New Zealand's Ravensdown Fertilizer Cooperative. Under the terms of the deal, the petrochemical conglomerate will supply the Ravensdown with 200,000 metric tons a year of urea, starting January 2003. Sabic operates the world's largest Urea plant and is one of Ravensdown's two major suppliers of granular Urea.
SABIC's Fertilizer Group produces ammonia and urea, as well as compound, phosphate and liquid fertilizers. SABIC produces and markets both prilled and granular urea. The company’s three affiliates—Saudi Arabian Fertilizer Company (Safco), Al-Jubail Fertilizer Company (Samad) and National Chemical Fertilizer Company (Ibn Al-Baytar)—produce a total of 5.5 million metric tons per year (mt/y) of fertilizers.
SABIC is now the world's largest exporter of urea, as well as the world's second biggest producer of urea fertilizer and the single largest producer of granular urea. More than 80 percent of SABIC's total urea capacity is earmarked for export to markets in Africa, Asia, North America and Oceania. — (menareport.com)
