Israel’s Rotem Industries, supplier of O-18 enriched water, has begun construction on the next expansion of its Oxygen-18 enriched water production plant. Upon completion in 2005, the expansion will bring Rotem's annual production to over 265 kilograms.
Rotem is the world's largest manufacturer of the material, a critical precursor for production of FDG. FDG is the marked glucose compound injected into patients prior to PET scans. With the rapid growth in use of PET for cancer diagnosis and staging, FDG needs are expanding and hence the requirement for O-18 enriched water.
The ambitious new project will double current production capacity for Rotem's product, marketed under the brand name Hyox18. Hyox18 is currently used by over 250 PET centers worldwide and considered the world standard for O-18 water. Almost all volumes are sold in the framework of multi-year contracts, allowing Rotem to accurately plan production and adhere to delivery schedules. — (menareport.com)
