The first rodeo event ever in the Middle East region, will take place February 2002 in Dubai, hoping to attract some 13,000 visitors to the emirate, according to Gulf News daily. The joint Australian-UAE venture is valued at an estimated eight million dollars.
Various international firms have reportedly expressed interest in sponsorship, however businessmen Raffi Vartanian and Australian partner Carl Piggott, who stand behind the project, maintain that they are solely interested in long-term sponsors. Doors are open to local investors as well.
The two entrepreneurs have dispelled accusations that the rodeo will compete with the Dubai World Cup, saying that the project will boost the Emirate’s tourism sector.
The event will feature bull rides, bareback rides, steer wrestling and various types of roping events. Cowboys from eight countries including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Hawaii and Japan will participate in the event, along with over 100 livestock brought in from Australian ranches.
Plans are also underway to establish a multi-purpose indoor ring within the next five years to stage future events. Unofficial reports reveal that a popular American country singer will perform at the event. Live-internet broadcasting of the event is expected as well. ― (MENA Report)
