ALBAWABA – Reddit, the American social news aggregation, content rating, and forum social network is becoming the most preferred and used application in the United Kingdom, surpassing X which was widely used in the country previously.

Reddit: most preferred in the UK

According to tech experts, discussion platforms and applications are always ranking high and growing rapidly in the United Kingdom. Reddit is now the fifth most popular social media platform in the country.

At Reddit, users can view and share topics based on discussion threads available on the platform. Ofcom, the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications, and postal industries of the United Kingdom, stated that about 22.9 million users visited Reddit in May 2024, compared to 22.1 million on X.

It is worth noting that the platform recorded a significant growth of approximately 47% in 2023, taking the spots from the famous X and LinkedIn social platforms. Experts believe the reason behind Reddit’s recent popularity is driven by Google’s search engine updates.

Farhad Divecha, managing director of AccuraCast, a UK-based digital marketing agency, stated: “Google’s latest algorithm update in the first half of 2024 gave Reddit a big boost in organic search traffic. I think that has probably contributed a lot.”

On the other hand, X is losing popularity due to the new standards introduced by Elon Musk in 2022 and growing competition from Threads, a new application developed by the Instagram team.
