The Qatar National Olympic Committee (QNOC) has signed six major contracts at the QSi Expo. The contracts amounted to $22 million and covered a variety of development, construction an infrastructure projects. All of the contracts announced related to three major facilities at Rayyan, Al-Ittihad and Al-Saad sports complexes.
The main contract announced was for the construction of two multi-purpose sports halls awarded to Contraco. Each hall will seat 3,000 people and they are intended for a variety of uses such as handball, volleyball, basketball and other large-scale indoor sports events.
Other major works included the installation of light fittings from Philips by Darwish Trading worth $440,000. Tadmur Contracting & Trading are to supply one million dollars worth of air conditioning by the Japanese manufacturer Daikin, and JAMCO will supply seating from Italian suppliers Venelli worth approximately $2.6 million for the main stadiums. ITT will supply sports equipment worth $500,000 along with two massive electronic video display score boards from Daktronics in the US worth around $ 1.4 million.
The scope of works at the Rayyan and Al-Itttihad clubs is based upon a substantial development of all sports facilities in Qatar ahead of the 2006 Asian Games. The contract announcements made at the QSi Expo form part of an overall development plan announced on Monday by QNOC estimated to cost $1.8 billion. — (menareport.com)
