Qatar General Petroleum Corporation (QGPC), the state-run oil company, has changed its name to Qatar Petroleum and adopted a new logo, the official QNA news agency reported Tuesday.
Oil Minister Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiya unveiled the new corporate identity late Monday, it said.
"The new identity will serve as a symbol of the companys commitment to bring pride to Qatar, to develop its potential, and to live up to the expectations of Qatars people and the companys partners," Attiya said.
Qatar, with a modest OPEC quota of 691,800 barrels per day, sits on top of the world's third largest gas reserves after Russia and Iran.
QGPC was founded in 1974 to oversee the oil and gas industry in the Gulf emirate and various interests overseas that include exploration, drilling, production and distribution.
The company has full control of the National Oil Distribution Company (NODCO), and controlling shares in Qatar Petrochemical Company Ltd. (80 percent), Qatar Fertiliser Company (75 percent), Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Ltd. (66.5 percent) and Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Ltd. (65 percent).—AFP.
