Several marine shipment companies and agencies operating in the Qatar have recently voiced demands that authorities put an end to the monopolistic practices of the Qatari Navigation Company, claiming that the firm unfairly controls all cargo loading and unloading operations.
The companies added that the 30-year government contract awarded to the Qatari Navigation Company, has remained unchanged despite a cabinet decision five years ago to open the sector to fair commercial competition, reported Al-Sharq daily.
Established in 1958 as the first national company, Qatar Navigation was granted a 20-year concession by the state to undertake the work of shipping agencies and coastal sea transport in Qatar. This concession was subsequently extended. ― (MENA Report)
