Qatar recently signed an agreement to deliver 500-750 million cubic feet of gas per day to its former rival, the neighboring Island of Bahrain. The state of Qatar holds the world’s third largest proven gas reserves—after Russia and Iran—with approximately 500 trillion cubic feet.
A preliminary accord was signed by representatives of the Qatari and Bahraini governments and a representative from the American Exxon-Mobil Oil Corporation, the project’s developer, the official QNA news agency reported. Qatar is also hoping to sign a similar deal to supply Kuwait with between 850 and one billion cubic feet of gas a day, Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Abdulla Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said.
This past March, the World Court drew a single maritime boundary in the Gulf of Bahrain, resolving the decade long land dispute between the two countries. After the World Court’s verdict, both sides have moved quickly to start exploring their respective side of the maritime border, inviting international majors to drill for oil and gas. — (menareport.com)
