As a result of soaring rates which have pushed the price index skyward, Qatari inflation during the first half of this year reached 8.2 per cent.
The rate of inflation for the first six months of 2006 in Qatar, maintained data from Qatar's Planning Council, was significantly higher than during the same period last year, when its stood at 4.8 per cent, according to the Gulf Times reported.
The consumer price index stood at 128.89 in the first two quarters, compared to 119.13 in 2005, with inflation in the first half standing at 8.2 per cent.
In addition to skyrocketing rents, hikes in commodity prices and services, as well as depreciation of the dollar were also major factors in the trend.
